Cressida Bowyer at the University of Portsmouth,U.K.,says that even if we have a proces that can split waste plastic into constituent parts and withstand additives,other issues remain.The degree of poisonousness and disposal of the catalysts and additives must be considered,she says."These could outweigh any perceived benefits of recycling technologies.Recycling should not be seen as any kind of solution to maintaining or increasing production of single-use and unnecessary plastics and continuing the current prevailing take-make-waste culture,"she adds.
