These planetary alignments, often called “planetary parades”, have captured significant media attention recently. While they were indeed awe-inspiring, it was important to clarify some common misconceptions before you headed outside to observe. For instance, seeing Uranus and Neptune required binoculars or a small telescope, as they were not visible to human eyes. Additionally, some planets appeared low on the western horizon around dusk, while others were bright and high in the sky after sunset.
A planetary alignment occurred when planets lined up on the same side of the sun. This happened because the planets orbited the sun in a similar plane, known as the ecliptic (黄道). As a result, from our perspective on Earth, the planets appeared to form a line across the sky, even if they were not perfectly aligned in space.
