Plastic waste in the ocean is a big problem. It’s harmful to more than 800 kinds of sea animals. To deal with this problem, scientists have invented special robots that can clean up rubbish on the water. These robots are called Ocean Cleanup Drones (无人机).
They have large collection nets and tools to catch plastic waste of most different sizes. And the solar panels (太阳能电池板) on their surfaces get energy from the sun, allowing them to keep on working without needing other power source. The drones find plastic waste and move towards it through AI technology.
In a test that was done in the Pacific Ocean early in 2024, the Ocean Cleanup Drones were able to remove as much as 12 tons of rubbish every month. Because of this, local fishermen can now see cleaner water and healthier fish. But experts say that they can’t pick up tiny pieces of plastic, called micro-plastics. So the Ocean Cleanup Drones need improving. According to Dr. Lee, who leads the project, the most important thing is still to stop pollution.
Everyone can help reduce plastic waste by developing good habits. One easy way is using reusable water bottles instead of single-use ones. This simple change can cut down a person’s plastic waste by 60%. We can avoid products with too much packaging and say no to plastic bags when shopping. We should choose eco-friendly products and recycling properly in daily life. By working together, we can make our oceans cleaner and safer for all living things.
